This Henri Matisse very rare vintage 1989 Modernist lithograph print custom framed museum poster " Snow Flowers " 1951, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist poster print is published by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Printed in 1989 in The United States in an unnumbered limited edition. It features an artwork image originally created by Matisse in 1951 titled " Snow Flowers ", The Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection, copyright 1989 The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Henri Matisse ( 1869 - 1954 ) the French born artist is known for both his sense of color and fluid aesthetic. Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso as one of the most important artists who helped to define and influence radical Contemporary Art of The Twentieth Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art.
The artwork image of " Snow Flowers " ( Fleurs De Neige ) comes from Matisse's renowned Paper Cut-Outs series of artworks. The magnificent pure color celebrates the radiance and emotional intensity of the artist's oeuvre.
Using a pair of scissors, Matisse cut forms out of colored sheets of paper which he kept arranging and combining until he had achieved a harmonious juxtaposition of pure colors. As he wrote " He drew with scissors, cutting into the color as a sculptor cuts into stone ". It was a historic moment in Modern Art : Matisse had discovered a brilliant and successful new method as a painter. His fascination with color and his Joie De Vivre are inextricably bound up in the artworks of his Paper Cut-Outs.
The rare out of print framed Modernist museum poster print measures 17 1/4" W X 33 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern variegated walnut tone woodgrain style recessed detail matte finish metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor wear. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
