Offered is a pair of Japanese silk scroll paintings from the 1930s Shōwa Era, possibly the Kano School, featuring a flock of red-crowned cranes, which are symbols of longevity and good fortune in Japanese art. The scrolls bear the signature and seal of the artist "Kohō" (香邦). They are hand-painted on silk and have been mounted as framed panels. There is calligraphy on both, bur so far we have only been able to translate the words "bamboo shoots". These are known to feature poetry on good fortune and Buddhist philosophy. Multiple cranes are depicted, a typical auspicious illustration in Asian art. There is a thin red matting along the rims of the art on the outside of the glass. We confess that we fell in love with these faux bamboo frames at an estate sale, and were planning to sell the frames alone, but decided that these paintings deserved to stay in place and bring luck to their new home. All images taken in natural daylight and true to color, see condition notes.
They measure 15" wide, 37.25" long, 1" deep, the exposed image is 13.5" x 35.5"
