Baskets of this nature were all the rage in the mid 20th to the late 20th-century! The style was designed for use as a picnic basket, and this is an extraordinarily large sized one, possibly the largest one I have ever seen. While this beauty is perfect for use as a picnic basket, it can also be used as a stylish storage basket and be displayed as a décor accent. The frame has been handwoven with natural rattan stakes and weavers in an over and under design. The outer border rail of the basket’s base and hinged top integrates an all-around twisted and braided willow trim. Valise-style double handles have been wrapped in rattan weavers, as has the lip of the basket and the lid’s lower lip; double frog latches on the left and right side provide secure closure of the top. Colors are naturally aged earth tone hues. It measures 22” x 15½” x 9¼” W/D/H; interior 21¾” x 14¾” x 6½” W/D/H; weight 3 lbs. 6 oz. In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. Though the label is long gone, it was handcrafted in Hong Kong by an unknown basket artisan.
