Overview:
For your consideration, a remarkable pair of 1970s “Zermatt“ sling chairs designed by Duncan Burke and Gunter Eberle for the Vecta Group (unmarked). These chairs are master class in postmodern industrial design, featuring a continuous, mirror-polished chrome frame that creates a striking minimalist silhouette. The specific pair features the original, heavy duty, canvas slings in vibrant orange/terra-cotta, offering a more relaxed, safari aesthetic, compared to the leather versions.
Design and functionality:
The Zermatt collection was lauded for its brilliant “knockdown“ engineering. The tubular steel frames utilize the sophisticated snap/lock mechanism, allowing chairs to be disassembled in minutes for easy transport or storage without the need for tools. Despite their airy appearance, the cantilevered design provides surprising ergonomic support and a comfortable, slight “flex”when seating.
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The polished chrome frames have been professionally cleaned and show a high luster with only minor age-appropriate surface wear. The heavy canvas slings have been deep cleaned and remain structurally sound with firm tension. No major stains, rips or structural repairs. These chairs are unmarked.

The tubular chrome frames have been hand polished to high luster. As common with authentic 1970s Vecta steel, the chrome exhibits, minor, age-appropriate, patina, and light surface scuffs (concentrated primarily on the floor contact points) which confirm their vintage provenance without detracting from their stunning overall appearance. less
