The reverse is titled “In der Rosenzeit” (“In the season of roses”), a poetic reference to late spring in bloom. Clearly signed in hand-painted script “Ahne” at the lower right, the signature of Joseph Ahne, who operated a porcelain and glass decorating studio in Steinschönau, Bohemia, around 1894. Ahne is known for his highly detailed work in the Royal Vienna style, including portraits on KPM plaques. Examples of Ahne's work have appeared at major international auction houses, including Christie's. One of his notable pieces is a portrait of Joseph Wheeler, rendered in near-photographic detail.

The richly colored burgundy gilded wide rim frame the portrait beautifully, creating a dramatic yet refined presentation. The hand-painted surface retains its vibrancy, a hallmark of fired porcelain.
