This hand-carved stone scholar’s dish is fashioned from a deep forest-green stone, featuring a striking natural mottling of charcoal veining and pale ochre inclusions. The vessel is expertly shaped into the silhouette of a recumbent ram, a traditional symbol of peace and auspiciousness, with its head tucked toward its body to form a rounded, shallow basin. The ram’s features are rendered with archaic-style incised lines, highlighting the tightly curled horns and a serene facial expression. Polished to a soft, waxy luster, the piece retains a heavy, substantial feel typical of semi-precious stone carvings, while the flat, unadorned underside showcases the raw, swirling beauty of the mineral’s natural grain.
