The figure rests on a … Read more Eye-catching Staffordshire recumbent deer figurine finished in a rich iron-red glaze with hand-applied white spotting. The figure rests on a classic green and brown mottled base. This piece appears to follow an early 1820s mold or a faithful continuation of that model. The small vent hole to the underside and the strong similarity to other antique examples suggest the possibility of an earlier production. At the same time, the glossy glaze, consistent crazing, and cleanly finished base are also in line with late 19th to early 20th century Staffordshire tradition. A wonderful decorative object that bridges antique design and later craftsmanship, perfect for shelves, book stacks, or layered English country interiors.
