It is marked "Made in Edinburgh Scotland" on the bottom. The vase is blown glass that combines the ancient art of cutting with engraving, and the pictures show the intricate, delicate engraved thistle pattern below a circular band followed by panels and cross hatch cuts. All that is set upon a starburst foot. There is video on the discontinueddesigns.co.uk website shows the thistle pattern being made. The thistle is the national flower of Scotland and a symbol of unity and strength. So, if you are a lover of all things Scottish or just beautiful things, this is a wonderful, rare, and collectible piece to have.

Note that the exact date of production of the vase is unknown. The pattern was introduced by Edinburgh Crystal in the 1920s, and the company was acquired by Waterford in 2007, so the vase was made sometime in between. A 1977 catalog shows that it is design # H828, and the official title is the “Thistle Design Center Vase 10”. See less
