A sculptural Chinese Yixing clay teapot dating to the 1970s-80s, distinguished by its sharply tapered rectangular form, canted shoulders, and angular loop handle. The body is incised with archaistic script and the overall silhouette has a distinctly architectural quality, giving the piece a stronger visual presence than more conventional round Yixing forms.
The warm red-brown clay and restrained matte surface work especially well in interiors that favor collected objects with graphic shape and quiet texture. Even when not in use, it reads beautifully as a shelf or tabletop accent and a good choice for a layered interior where one unusual object can carry a vignette.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
It’s rare that I come across a modernist reinterpretation of a traditional Yixing teapot. The tapered, almost architectural body, combined with the archaic-style characters, immediately sets it apart from more familiar forms.
I appreciate how confidently it moves between categories. It can read as a functional object, but just as easily as a sculptural piece, something you might place on a shelf or table simply for its form. I see it working beautifully in a contemporary interior, where its geometry and quiet surface can hold its own, or as an unexpected addition within a more traditional collection.

There are two small chips: one at a corner of the lid and one at a corner of the base/body. Both are relatively minor and not immediately noticeable in normal display. Light surface wear and minor production irregularities consistent with vintage Yixing pottery. less
