A premier 19th-century Masonic Officer’s Collar from the Grand Encampment of the Knights Templar (circa 1880–1890). Produced by the renowned Ward-Stilson Co. of New London, OH, this "Territorial" era artifact was likely used by the Dakota Grand Encampment. Sourced from the private estate of a prominent Hollywood interior designer, it represents the pinnacle of late-Victorian "Society Goods" craftsmanship.
Design & Detail
The collar is masterfully constructed from deep royal purple velvet, providing a lush, high-contrast backdrop for hand-wrought metallic bullion passementerie. It is adorned with six dimensional, gold-thread stars and bordered by an elaborate metallic fringe. The lower terminals are finished with heavy, weighted bullion tassels, providing the "Old World" gravitas prized in high-end residential interiors.
Styling Note
In current "Dark Academia" and "Celestial" design trends, this piece is a premier candidate for professional shadowbox framing. Its architectural U-shaped silhouette and shimmering metallic stars offer a soulful, "found object" alternative to traditional art for a library, study, or gallery wall.
Condition
Excellent Antique Condition. The purple velvet retains a rich, deep pile, and the metallic embroidery remains remarkably bright. Features the original Ward-Stilson Co. manufacturer's label on the reverse.
Dimensions
17" L (23" including tassels) x 4" W
Collector's Note
This is the final piece of a unique collection of three 19th-century Knights Templar ceremonial collars currently available in our gallery. Historically and tonally compatible, they offer a rare opportunity to acquire a complete, graduated set for a high-impact interior installation.
