Set of 8 Hand Painted plates, made in Italy by Deruta. Each plates measure 8 5/8" in diameter and depicts Native Americans at locations on Nantucket. They include - Coatue "At the Pine Woods", Miacomet "A Meeting Place", Siaconset "Near the Great Bone", Wauwinet "Chief of the East", Pocomo "A Clear Fishing Place", Madakel "Bad ands", Monomoy "Black Earth", Nantucket "Far Away Island". Glazed terracotta. All the names on Nantucket derive from Native American (specifically Wampanoag Algonquian) terms.
'sconset - "place of great bones" or "near the great bone," likely refers to whale bones found nearby. Lovely on a wall on an island home or for those who love the Far away island! In excellent condition. Never used. Glazed terracotta with blue trim.
