About the artist :
Dale Chihuly (American - b. 1941)
Dale Chihuly is an internationally acclaimed American artist, widely recognized for revolutionizing the studio glass movement and elevating glass to the status of fine art. Born in Tacoma, Washington, Chihuly studied interior design at the University of Washington before pursuing glassblowing at the University of Wisconsin and later earning an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he would eventually establish and lead the glass program.
In 1971, Chihuly co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State, which became one of the world’s leading centers for glass art. Over the decades, he has developed a distinctive visual language characterized by organic forms, vibrant colors, and large-scale installations that push the boundaries of traditional glassmaking.
Chihuly’s work is held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. His installations have been exhibited in prestigious institutions and botanical gardens globally, often transforming entire architectural spaces with immersive environments.
Best known for series such as Baskets, Seaforms, and Persians, Chihuly’s work explores movement, light, and color, translating the fluidity of glass into sculptural forms that are both dynamic and poetic.
