Whiting sterling-mounted wildlife series, this “Bobwhite Quail” plate is among the least frequently encountered motifs within the group.

While other subjects from the series—such as duck and pheasant—surface with some regularity, the quail appears far less often, particularly in complete form with the original sterling silver mount intact. Surviving examples are limited, and intact pieces in clean condition are increasingly difficult to source.

Produced in the mid-20th century during a period when sterling-mounted decorative wares were created for upscale sporting and gift markets.

The hand-colored porcelain center, after an original work by Dennis Fulton, depicts the quail in flight with precise detail and natural coloration. It is framed by a solid sterling silver rim by Frank M. Whiting, finished with a classic beaded edge.
