freya hattenberger (born 1978 in offenbach am main) is a german media and performance artist who lives and works in cologne. She began her artistic training in 2001 at the academy of media arts cologne, where she studied under renowned artists such as jürgen klauke, marcel odenbach, and matthias müller. After graduating with distinction in 2006, she continued her studies at the sandberg institute in amsterdam, where she earned a postgraduate master of fine arts.
freya hattenberger (born 1978 in offenbach am main) is a german media and performance artist who lives and works in cologne. Throughout her career, hattenberger has received numerous grants and awards, including the karl schmidt-rottluff scholarship and the advancement award of the state of north rhine-westphalia for media art. International residencies and stays, for example in paris, france, and through the goethe-institut, have further shaped her artistic development.

Her solo exhibitions include "beweggründe" at the photoszene festival in cologne (2020), "think of me when you are in glorious sunshine" at bräuning contemporary in hamburg (2016), and presentations in galleries in düsseldorf, frankfurt, and dortmund.
she has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including at the museum ostwall in dortmund, the ludwig forum aachen, the kunstmuseum bonn, the tbilisi triennial, and the palais de tokyo in paris.

These include, among others, the collection of the musée des beaux-arts in nantes, the museum ostwall in dortmund, and the imai foundation – inter media art institute in düsseldorf. International archives such as v-tape in toronto also hold her video works.
