This elegant porcelain bowl is a classic example of Japanese Arita ware, featuring the timeless "Sometsuke" (blue and white) aesthetic. The interior is masterfully decorated with a central Ho-o bird (Phoenix), a mythical symbol of peace and prosperity, surrounded by lush chrysanthemum blossoms-the national flower of Japan.
The scalloped rim is accentuated by a traditional Seigaiha (wave) border, representing surges of good fortune. The underside bears the characteristic blue square "Fuku" (Good Fortune) mark, frequently found on high-quality Arita export porcelain from the late 19th through the mid-20h century. This piece combines traditional Edo-period motifs with the refined craftsmanship of the Meiji or early Showa eras.
