More beautiful than new: a restored & strikingly designed Dutch Design armchair by the designer Gijs van der Sluis, a self-taught furniture designer with a background in mechanical engineering, who began after World War II by manufacturing machine parts for the cigar industry in Culemborg. Due to market demand, he also began designing and producing steel chairs. His passion for technology and high-quality standards resulted in successful designs and the Van der Sluis Steel Furniture company. Some of his designs are still being produced by his grandchildren. These pieces. This model, numbered No. 12, was intended as a low “lounge” chair—a low-seated, solidly built, and comfortable piece of furniture. With its heavy frame made of solid steel and its fine teak armrests, it is a piece of furniture that truly exudes quality. The original caps on the legs are still in place, ensuring a level and stable position on the floor. The frames of these pieces have been completely refinished in high-gloss black, and the teak armrests have been completely refinished and given a beautiful semi-matte finish. We have also opted for completely new padding in the seat and backrest, as well as a beautiful, timeless, first-class upholstery fabric of the Odense type in a lovely light gray. This fabric has a beautiful bouclé effect and pays homage to the fabrics of the 1960s and 1970s. This armchair is exceptionally beautiful in both design and craftsmanship, a quintessential example of Dutch Design that is suitable for daily use and of very solid quality. A timelessly beautiful design, restored to like-new condition for decades of enjoyment!
