This David Hockney very rare vintage 1981 lithograph print custom framed large New York Film Festival poster " Window, Grand Hotel, Vittel " 1970, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Film Society of Lincoln Center, printed in England in 1981 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of The Nineteenth New York Film Festival. It features an artwork image originally created by Hockney in 1970 titled " Window, Grand Hotel, Vittel, copyright david Hockney 1970, courtesy Petersburg Press.
This is a rare opportunity for true Hockney and film fans and collectors, as this coveted image large lithograph poster is long out of print and very scarce to find.
David Hockney ( B. 1937 ) is an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He is an important contributor to The Pop Art Movement of the 1960's. He is considered one of the most influential British artists of The 20th Century. His artworks have commanded greater popular acclaim than any other Contemporary British artist. The Pop Art Expressionist style artworks have been the subject of more than 400 solo exhibitions. Art works by Hockney are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The New York Film Festival is a film festival in New York City, presented by Film At Lincoln Center. Founded in 1963, it is one of the longest-running and most prestigious festivals in The United States. Since its beginnings, the festival has showcased the work of many of the most acclaimed filmmakers.
It has also collaborated with some of the most revered visual artists for its festival posters. They make up a roll call of influential art stars including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Cindy Sherman, Larry Rivers, Sol LeWitt, Frank Stella, James Rosenquist, Jim Dine, and Saul Bass among many others.
Hockney was an internationally celebrated artist for more than two decades before collaborating on this poster. It beautifully reproduces his 1970 crayon drawing " Window, Grand Hotel, Vittel ", and in the context of the festival, it feels like a contemplative moment from French Cinema, with its subject matter the famous historic Grand Hotel in Vittel, France.
The rare out of print large format framed lithograph print film festival poster measures 28 1/8" W X 40 1/4" H X 1 1/4" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern satin eggshell finish natural oak wood museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, use, light signs of handling, and some light to moderate visible wear.
