A striking and authentic vintage horsehide hobby horse, likely attributed to Nikolaus Klein of Chicago, dating to the 1930s–1940s.
This beautifully constructed piece features a hand-carved wooden form wrapped in genuine horsehide, with a full horsehair mane and tail, glass eyes, and a leather saddle and bridle. The horse is mounted on its original wooden rolling platform with metal supports and wheels, giving it both sculptural presence and historical charm.
At approximately 38 inches tall, this is a larger-scale example, making it an exceptional decorative statement piece. The natural patina, texture of the hide, and expressive form give it a unique character that works beautifully in rustic, Western, or eclectic interiors.
Originally designed as a child’s toy, pieces like this are now highly sought after as decorative objects by collectors and interior designers alike.
