brand: s.c.i. Società ceramica italiana was founded in 1856 as an industrial manufacturer of ceramics for domestic use. From the beginning, it adopted modern production methods, particularly decorative printing, which enabled a large and competitive production. Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, s.c.i. Grew to become one of italy's leading ceramics centers. Alongside mass production, it developed a strong focus on artistic quality, engaging designers and artists and contributing to the renewal of the formal language of ceramics. Its period of greatest prestige was between the 1920s and 1930s, with participation in the biennale and triennale exhibitions and a direct dialogue with the 20th-century movement and rationalism. In 1965, the company merged with richard-ginori, losing its independence but leaving a central legacy in the history of italian ceramics and design.
