This beautiful lidded jar is painted in the Satsuma manner on a translucent porcelain body rather than the heavy earthenware typically associated with the style, suggesting a quality workshop production from the Meiji period. The decoration is finely executed, with polychrome enamel figural panels depicting courtly figures in a landscape, framed by geometric and floral gold work on the shoulder and base band. The base is unmarked and glazed white.
The jar measures 6.5 inches tall by 5.5 inches in diameter. It is in good antique condition with a small chip to the interior rim of the lid as shown in the photographs. Please see all available photographs and consider them as part of the item description.
