Instruments from Hanau were widely respected in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for their mechanical precision and durable construction, serving laboratories, pharmacists, and jewelers who required extremely accurate measurements.

The scale features a finely engineered beam mechanism with central indicator, adjustable calibration system, and suspended brass weighing pans mounted on a wooden instrument base with drawer for weights.

The balance retains its original character with a warm aged patina to the brass and a beautifully worn wooden surface that reflects decades of careful use.
