The decoration … Read more A Regency-period Worcester porcelain plate of fluted and scalloped form, decorated in the long-established “Dragon in Compartments” design. The decoration features opposing panels with a dragon and a kylin, divided by reserves of vases and precious objects, painted in colours inspired by the Chinese famille verte palette.

The form continues Worcester’s shaped plates of the 1765–1775 decade, while the crowned BFB mark on the reverse identifies production within the Barr, Flight & Barr partnership, circa 1807–1813.

The plate retains two original “Flight Collection” labels. These relate to the important Worcester collection assembled by Howard Emerson Flight — Lord Flight — direct descendant of Thomas Flight, purchaser of the factory in 1783. Elements of this specialised Flight, Barr & Barr collection were later dispersed at auction through Bonhams and Toovey’s, and surviving labelled pieces are recognised as carrying direct family provenance.
