About the artist:

Roberto Tortoli (born September 1951, Italy) is a largely self-taught painter and graphic artist whose work blends modern decorative design with the visual language of 1920s–1930s Art Deco illustration.

From an early age, Tortoli showed a strong interest in drawing and painting, studying artworks in European museums and observing street artists rather than pursuing formal academic training. This independent approach shaped his style and technique.

In 1974 he moved to Florence, where he initially worked as a designer for a fashion house. During this period he refined his understanding of color, line, and elegant figure composition, skills that later became central to his art. After several years his personal paintings gained attention among friends and collectors, enabling him to leave commercial design and focus on painting full-time.

Tortoli’s works have been exhibited in Italy, France, Germany, and the United States, and many were issued as limited-edition serigraphs and lithographs during the 1980s and 1990s.
