Condition: good condition with moderate signs of wear.
nii takeshi was the youngest son of a family that had been producing and selling kendo weapons and armor for three generations. After the war, kendo was banned by the american occupying forces. Nii takeshi then began making wooden baskets for home food deliveries and shelves for pharmacies and shops. During this time, he remembered a director's chair he had seen before world war ii and decided to recreate such a model himself. This marked the beginning of his career as a chair maker.
in 1970, nii takeshi designed the ny chair x. His aim was to create a piece of seating furniture that was as cost-effective and space-saving as possible, yet comfortable and robust. The chair consists of only six parts, is foldable, and easy to ship. The result was indeed a masterpiece and has sold almost a million units worldwide to date. The chair is considered an icon of japanese design. The design was added to the permanent collection of the museum of modern art in 1974.
