Some pieces don’t shout for attention—they simply feel collected the moment you see them.
This signed studio pottery vessel from 1992 has that kind of quiet presence. The form is tall and cylindrical with a soft ivory crackle glaze that serves as a backdrop for a painterly band of color wrapping the center of the piece. The glaze reads almost like a landscape—soft celadon greens, dusty blues, blush tones, and earthy olive melting into one another in that unpredictable way only kiln-fired glaze can produce.
Running vertically down one side is a sculptural ridge detail that adds movement and texture, giving the otherwise minimal silhouette a subtle organic rhythm. If you look closely, you can see the ridges imprinted from the shell the artist used to create this vessel. The piece is finished with a bent bamboo handle, secured through the vessel walls in a way that nods to Japanese and California studio pottery traditions of the late twentieth century. That small detail shifts it from simple vase to something more tactile and sculptural.
The underside is signed and dated ’92, confirming its studio-made origin.
It works beautifully as a decorative object on its own, but would also hold tall stems or branches effortlessly. Pieces like this layer easily into organic modern, coastal modern, wabi-sabi, or collected eclectic interiors.
