There’s a restraint to this piece that makes it far more compelling in person than in photos alone.
This signed 1992 studio pottery vessel leans heavily organic modern — quiet ivory crackle glaze, softened cylindrical form, and a painterly band of atmospheric color wrapping the center like a blurred coastal horizon. Celadon green, dusty blue, blush, and muted earth tones drift together organically in the glaze, giving the piece movement without overwhelming the simplicity of the form.
What elevates it is the sculptural construction. One side features a vertically textured ridge detail with visible shell impressions pressed into the clay, adding subtle rhythm and tactility. The bent bamboo handle softens the silhouette further and gives the piece a distinctly late-century California studio pottery feel with echoes of Japanese folk craft traditions.
This is the kind of object that works best layered into a space rather than styled too formally — on open shelving, atop stacked books, or as part of a collected ceramic grouping where texture and material matter more than symmetry.
Signed and dated 1992 on underside.
