The piece … Read more This is a decorative tripod censer-form vessel featuring a sculptural foo lion finial and matching mythical beast handles. The piece is raised on tapered legs and finished in a finely crackled glaze with richly patterned decoration. The body is ornamented with scrolling motifs and chrysanthemum medallions in warm iron-red and gilt tones, framing a central panel depicting a flowering branch with birds against a deep cobalt blue ground. The domed lid is topped with a guardian lion resting on a brocade-patterned cushion and holding a symbolic ball beneath its paw. The sculptural handles and finial display expressive modeling and extensive crackle glazing accented with gilt highlights, giving the piece strong dimensional presence. The overall form recalls traditional incense burners while functioning beautifully as a decorative object for a console, cabinet, or tabletop display. This is in good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear, crackle glaze throughout as intended in the firing process, and minor surface wear consistent with age. See less
