A striking pair of Victorian cranberry glass mantel lusters dating to approximately circa 1880–1895, beautifully hand-decorated with delicate enamel floral garlands and intricate gilt scrollwork.
Each luster features a scalloped rim above a richly colored cranberry glass body, ornamented with finely painted flowers in soft whites, blues, and greens, accented with elegant gilded detailing. Suspended from the rims are numerous faceted crystal prism drops, including elongated spear-point prisms and faceted connector drops which catch and refract light beautifully.
A particularly distinctive feature of this pair is the double tier of hanging prisms, creating two cascading rows of crystal drops. This layered arrangement produces exceptional sparkle and movement when displayed and is less commonly encountered than the more typical single-row configuration seen on many Victorian lusters.
Lusters such as these were popular decorative objects in late 19th-century parlors and drawing rooms, where they were often displayed on mantels, sideboards, or occasional tables to add brilliance and refinement to the room. The crystal prisms were designed to refract candlelight, producing lively reflections and movement in the glass.
The form, richly colored cranberry glass, and detailed enamel decoration are characteristic of late 19th-century Bohemian glassworks, which produced finely decorated lusters for export to the English and American markets during the Victorian period. The ground pontil bases, visible on the undersides, further support this traditional continental glassmaking technique.
Now well over 130 years old, this elegant pair remains in remarkably well-preserved condition, retaining vibrant cranberry coloration, crisp enamel decoration, and the majority of its original crystal prism drops.
A dramatic and elegant decorative pair that displays beautifully on a mantel, console, or cabinet.
For safe transport, each luster will be carefully packed and double boxed, with the crystal prism drops removed, wrapped individually, and shipped separately. The prisms can be easily reattached to the existing hooks upon arrival.

One luster is missing two prism drops; the small faceted connector crystals remain present. One additional prism on that example has a missing pointed tip. The companion luster is missing one prism drop, though the connector crystal remains. There is minor wear to the delicate gilt decoration on the bases, most visible in the fine gold banding. Most of the hanging wires appear to be original, with a few possible period replacements. The remaining prisms are intact and hang securely. The bases show typical age-appropriate shelf wear, and the ground pontil undersides are consistent with traditional late 19th-century glassmaking techniques. Overall the pair presents beautifully and displays exceptionally well for decorative pieces now more than a century old. less
