This deeply patinated nomadic harvest bowl is a stunning artifact of daily tribal life. In traditional agrarian societies, sturdy baskets of this mid-sized scale were the quintessential tools of the home and harvest. A 16.5-inch bowl like this would have been used constantly by its maker for sorting grains, gathering seeds, or safely carrying communal food supplies. Woven entirely by hand from thick, locally sourced grasses and reeds, this basket has developed a remarkably rich, dark patina on the interior from decades of heavy, authentic use. Along the naturally frayed rim, you can spot a small, faded remnant of a repurposed red and beige textile, hinting at how the artisan once bound the edges to protect them from friction. When flipped over, the base reveals a substantial, thick layer of original sun-baked earthen mud sealing. This brilliant historical technique was used to waterproof the basket against damp soil and prevent precious, fine grains from slipping through the woven coils.
Measuring 16.5 inches across and 7 inches deep, this bowl is an incredibly versatile size for adding organic warmth to a space. Its dark, wabi-sabi character makes it a striking catch-all for an entryway console, a textural accent piece for built-in shelving, or a beautifully rustic centerpiece on a Japandi-style coffee table. It also layers beautifully into a three-dimensional woven gallery wall.
