This is a genuine antique mahogany regency-style side chair, scaled down to child/youth size.
Key features:
-The distinctive double crescent / figure-8 splat on the back is a classic Regency motif, very popular in American and English furniture from roughly 1800–1840.
-The saber/swept legs are another hallmark of the Regency period.
-The flat, slightly scrolled top rail is typical of Regency and American Federal furniture.
-Dark finish consistent with mahogany — the wood of choice for Regency pieces.
-The rear view shows clean, solid joinery at the seat rail corners. The wood appears to be genuine mahogany with a nice aged patina, not veneer over a cheaper substrate.
-The rear saber legs are quite pronounced and elegantly tapered, very consistent with authentic Regency or Federal period work rather than a later reproduction.
-The crescent/arch splat looks substantial and hand-shaped, not machine-routed, which suggests pre-industrial or early industrial manufacture.
-There's a subtle molded edge on the front seat rail, a detail more common in quality period pieces than reproductions.
Above all, this looks more confidently like a genuine antique, likely 1820–1850, either:
-English Regency transitioning into William IV style, or
-American Federal/Empire period from the same era
The wear patterns on the legs and feet look natural and consistent with 170–200 years of age, not artificially distressed.
The down scaled size indicates that this chair could be made as a child's chair, or a sewing/needlework chair, or a boudoir/dressing table chair, or a salesman's sample.
