Chiparus. … Read more An early 20th‑century, substantial, solid gilt‑bronze and hand‑cut crystal double inkwell, circa 1910–1925, in the manner of Demetre H. Chiparus. The sculptural base shows a barefoot young girl leaning against a rustic fence amid branches and foliage, with a flame‑form finial at the front; the ground is richly textured and bears a cast “D.H. CHIPARUS” signature, likely a commercial or later foundry signature rather than a personal artist’s signature. In its naturalistic, romantic treatment of the figure and setting, the piece reflects the late French Art Nouveau taste associated with the École de Nancy, and on stylistic grounds is considered a period piece, after Chiparus, and not an authenticated work by Chiparus himself.
