Pair of French porcelain apothecary jars, dating to the late 19th century. These elegant pharmacy jars feature crisp white glaze, hand-painted vibrant cartouches, and classic gilded banding.
Each jar retains its original conical lid, adding to their sculptural presence and authenticity.
Inscriptions:
EXT: CINOGL: – 10" high (including lid), 4-1/2" rim diameter
UNG: VEJIGAT: – 10-7/8" high (including lid), 4-1/2" diameter (rim chip - see photo)
The abbreviated Latin inscriptions reflect traditional apothecary labeling practices of the period.
Unmarked, typical of Vieux Paris production
“Vieux Paris” porcelain was produced by various independent workshops in and around Paris throughout the 19th century. Apothecary jars like these were both functional and decorative, used in pharmacies and later prized as display pieces in refined interiors.
Condition
One jar has a small rim chip (shown in photos).
Gilding shows rub loss and fading, consistent with age.
