This nicely stylized seagull and wave sculpture, with its crescent body, arched wing and simplified head, reflects the influence of Brancusi and Noguchi, among other MCM sculptors and artists.
This sculpture was probably a small studio-made piece intended for decorative purposes, possibly in Italy or the U.S.
It appear to have been cast in one piece.
Note the strong modernist composition, the even patina and the clean casting. A playful celebration of the interplay of the bird and the sea.
Dimensions: about 5 1/4 by 4 on the base, 10 inches high.
There are some small marks on the underside of the wave on the left front, probably the result of the removal of unwanted metal left after the casting.
