This writing desk with a drawer is an exceptionally elegant and rare example of Austrian furniture making from the early 19th-century Biedermeier period. The style aimed to merge functionality with high aesthetic value, which this desk achieves through its unique, almost sculptural form. The most striking feature is the sides styled in the shape of a lyre, with black ebonized rods symbolizing strings. This classical motif brings a touch of ancient harmony and intellectual nobility to the interior.
The piece has undergone complete restoration. The solid spruce construction is covered in fine walnut veneer with a beautiful, vibrant grain. The original wood polish has been sensitively refreshed, highlighting the warm walnut tone in contrast with the black "string" details. The desk features a practical drawer, and thanks to its subtlety and architectural design, it serves as an ideal solitaire for prestigious studies or salons.
It has been re-polished with polyutherane piano lacquer by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process.
This item features classic Biedermeier elements. Visual simplicity, light-colored woods, and contrasting inlays characterize this style. Relaxed sophistication is the name of the game. Despite original Biedermeier pieces being over 200 years old, the furniture of the movement still feels fresh and modern.
