The … Read more Elegant and relatively uncommon Italian Art Deco musical cigarette box from the 1940s, labeled Strumenti Barera Radio – Venezia.
The case is crafted in maple with refined horizontal fluted detailing, a distinctive element of Italian Deco design. The lid is veneered in a high-contrast exotic wood with bold linear grain, creating a striking dialogue between light and dark surfaces. Shaped brass handle and turned feet.
The manually wound music box activates upon opening. The interior features tilting cigarette compartments, a technical detail typical of better-quality examples of the period.
The piece was retailed by the historic Venetian firm Barera, active since the late 19th century in the musical instrument trade and later, between the late 1930s and the immediate post-war years, in the radio sector.
