The history of New York jewelry trademark “Dorsons” spans a period of about three decades. Incorporated in 1935, D. Ornstein & Sons, Inc. (later renamed to Dorsons Jewelry Co., Inc.). Initially, it was a family business of David Ornstein (1889 – 1954) and his sons, Bernard (1914 – 1992) and Irving (1920 – 2002). Headquartered in Manhattan, the company produced gold filled and sterling silver bracelets, brooches, necklaces and watch cases.
Romanian-born David Ornstein had significant experience in the jewelry business, starting in 1919. He and two partners owned Noveline Mfg. Co. (previously known as “Distinctive Jewelry Co., Inc.”) in New York City.
Between 1922-1945, Mr. Ornstein filed for several patents for rings, watch cases, bracelets, brooches, and even a brooch with a fountain pen. Advertised in the New York Times, Vogue, and Life, Dorsons Jewelry was very successful and the company had subsidiaries throughout the US and in Canada. In addition to Dorsons, the company owned Jubilee and Dorel trademarks (the last one in partnership with Heller-Deltah Co.) After the passing of Mr. Ornstein in 1954, the company went through name changes, mergers, and eventually ceased to exist in 1960.
This demi-parure set consisting of a sterling silver choker necklace and matching bracelet, with both having been set with rhinestones, is as fashionable today as it would have been in the 1950s, when it was designed.
Necklace measures 13.5" length
Bracelet measures 6.38" length
The most interesting aspect of this set is that the two pieces can be connected together at the clasps, so that it can be worn as a longer necklace.
Settings with rhinestones measure .38"H and .38"D
