Each engraving is richly composed within an elaborate ornamental border featuring scrolling foliage, urns, lilies and cherubs flanking the Christogram "IHS." The central scenes illustrate the principal religious feasts of each month, rendered with the remarkable narrative density and technical precision. Gaultier's hand is evident in the fine linear work, atmospheric perspective, and refined figural modeling characteristic of Parisian printmaking in the decades surrounding 1600. See less
