An oversized stack of Buffalo Nickels, cast in solid zinc, cool to the touch and satisfyingly weighty in the hand. Industrial metal elevates humble pocket change into something sculptural, graphic, a little bit brazen. Look closer and the illusion sharpens: both sides faithfully reproduce a 1926 U.S. Buffalo Nickel, the stoic Native American profile on one face, the muscular American bison on the other, blown up to heroic scale.
A narrow slit along the edge gives it away. This monument to loose change is a bank. Twist the top and it opens with a quiet, mechanical confidence. Inside, stamped 1975, a small time capsule from an era that loved bold statements and clever design.
