Antique Elite Works Limoges 8.5" Relish Dish - Gilded Scrolls & Celadon Dot Border
Add a touch of refined French charm to your table service with this delicate antique relish dish (also known as a celery or pickle tray). Crafted by the prestigious Elite Works (Bawo & Dotter) in Limoges, France, during the peak of the Belle Époque era (circa 1900–1914), this accessory piece is an essential component of a formal Gilded Age dinner service. The luminous white hard-paste porcelain features an elegant scalloped rim, a soft pale green dotted border, and intricate, hand-applied gold floral scrollwork. Its petite scale makes it a versatile addition for serving hors d'oeuvres, garnishes, or as a sophisticated vanity tray.
Dimensions:
Length: 8.5 inches
Width: 4.75 inches
Height: 1.25 inches
Condition:
Good Antique Condition. This authentic century-old piece shows character consistent with its history. The central well is remarkably clean with only light utensil marks.. There is visible, honest rubbing and thinning to the gold gilding on the scrollwork and along the scalloped edge, creating a beautiful aged patina. Structurally sound with no chips, cracks, or professional repairs.
Collector’s Note: The Elite Works Dual-Mark System
This dish features the prestigious Elite Works dual-backstamp, a hallmark of superior Limoges porcelain. The green underglaze factory mark ('ELITE / L / FRANCE') dates the porcelain body to 1896–1920, while the red overglaze 'St. Martial' shield confirms the intricate decoration was completed in-house between 1900 and 1914. Collectors highly prize these dual-marked examples as they verify the piece was both manufactured and decorated entirely within the Elite factory during their celebrated "Golden Age".
A lovely and functional survivor from a bygone era of elegance, this Elite Works relish dish is a perfect accent for the modern traditionalist or "Grandmillennial" host.
