Antique Elite Works Limoges 18" Grand Hostess Platter - Gilded Scrolls & Celadon Dot Border
Command the center of your holiday table with this magnificent 18-inch "Grand Master" serving platter. Crafted by the prestigious Elite Works (Bawo & Dotter) in Limoges, France, during the peak of the Belle Époque era (circa 1900–1914), this extra-large "Turkey Platter" represents the ultimate in Gilded Age entertaining. The luminous white hard-paste porcelain features a sophisticated scalloped rim, a delicate pale green dotted border, and expansive, hand-applied gold floral scrollwork. Its rare and impressive 18-inch scale makes it a true statement piece, perfect for serving large holiday roasts or acting as a grand foundational element in a luxury wall display.
Dimensions:
Width: 18 inches
Depth: 13 inches
Height: 2 inches
Condition:
Good Antique Condition. This authentic century-old platter bears the honest "patina of use" expected of a grand hostess piece. The central well shows moderate utensil scuffing and several small, dark "kiln dust" spots from the original firing process. There is visible rubbing and fading to the gold gilding along the scalloped edge and within the interior scrollwork. Structurally sound with no chips, cracks, or professional repairs.
Collector’s Note: The Elite Works Dual-Mark System
This platter features the prestigious Elite Works dual-backstamp, a hallmark of superior Limoges porcelain. The green underglaze factory mark ('ELITE / L / FRANCE') dates the porcelain body to 1896–1920, while the red overglaze 'St. Martial' shield confirms the intricate decoration was completed in-house between 1900 and 1914. Collectors highly prize these dual-marked examples as they verify the piece was both manufactured and decorated entirely within the Elite factory during their celebrated "Golden Age".
A rare survivor in this grand 18-inch scale, this Elite Works platter is a functional heirloom that bridges the gap between historical craftsmanship and the finest modern hosting.
