The distinctive marbled surface was created through an oil splash technique applied prior to firing.

The design combines a commemorative architectural view with the sentimental poem “The Sailor’s Farewell”, a hallmark of Sunderland’s maritime culture.

Its rounded proportions, tall collar and pronounced spout typify domestic English jugs of the Georgian era. Subtle glaze craquelure is visible throughout, consistent with age.

Sunderland lustreware remains a highly desirable category among collectors of early English ceramics.
