A striking vintage textile portrait depicting a Napoleonic-era hussar officer, rendered in richly layered wool appliqué, velvet, and embroidered detailing. The figure stands in dramatic pose, dressed in a vivid red braided tunic with gold frogging, epaulettes, pale fitted trousers, tall shako hat with plume, and curved saber at his side.
The uniform styling references late 18th to early 19th century European light cavalry regalia — most closely associated with French Napoleonic hussars. This piece appears to be a 20th century decorative or folk-art interpretation rather than an antique military textile, executed in wool felt, velvet, and cotton with stitched embellishment.
The dimensional layering of fabrics gives the figure depth and graphic impact against the dark velvet ground. A bold and theatrical statement piece for traditional, maximalist, equestrian, or collected interiors.
The textile has not been examined outside of the frame.
Framed Measurements:
14.75 inches tall x 10.25 inches wide
Visible Textile Area:
12.75 inches tall x 8 inches wide
The piece is housed under anti-glare glass in a silver-toned frame. The frame shows noticeable loss of silvering and edge wear consistent with age, handling, and storage. The textile appears stable and clean from visible inspection.
Overall, a strong decorative work with historical inspiration and excellent visual presence.
