This finely modeled American silver-plated napkin ring is a documented Japonisme design by the Meriden Silver Plate Company, produced during the height of the Aesthetic Movement in the late 19th century. The composition centers on a cylindrical napkin ring flanked by twin Japanese folding fans, each engraved with stylized sunburst and cloud motifs derived from Japanese graphic arts.

The ring is mounted on a rectangular platform richly cast with scrolling foliate relief and raised on four bun feet. The fans pivot outward, creating a sculptural, architectural profile that reflects Meriden’s technical sophistication and its embrace of Japanese design principles introduced to the West after the 1876 Centennial Exposition.

Executed in heavy silver plate, the surface retains a deep, softly burnished patina with areas of high-point wear consistent with age. The underside bears the Meriden Silver Plate Co. mark, confirming manufacture.
