English Gothic Revival sand-cast iron wall bell featuring a relief decorated bell suspended on a protruding bar, surmounted by ornate … Read more English Gothic Revival sand-cast iron wall bell featuring a relief decorated bell suspended on a protruding bar, surmounted by ornate Victorian architectural foundry iron work with a winged Griffon (A guardian symbolizing Protection, Vigilance and Strength) perched on the outer bar of the piece. The back of the primitively, hand forged iron mounting plate shows a bronze finish with "Ever Moving" cast into the metal (which is an appropriate reference to the motion of a doorbell that moves when rung often), as well as Roman Numerals that indicate pattern or mold identifiers used by 19th century foundries. These wall bells were commonly used in English shops, inns and pubs and for estate servants circa 1870-1895. The bell has a bright, yet deep sound when rung, making it a charming garden accent, to use by the front door or inside, as a way to summon your dinner guests or family!
