The round cylindrical shaped teapot is made with the bamboo theme. Impressed all around the teapot's body are vertical bamboo stalk lined side by side and held together by a band in the middle. The bamboo theme is repeated in the sprout and handle, as well as the rim of the top knob on the cover, represented as segmented bamboo. Within the bamboo ring of the knob is a yinyang symbol. The entire teapot cover is made to resemble a 八卦 Bagua or Eight Trigrams, an ancient Chinese symbol that has mystical meanings and significance.
Under the cover is an impressed potter's mark in two characters - 順鈴 Shunling. According to the label that came with the teapot, his dates were 1911 to 1955. On the bottom of the teapot is a square impressed mark of 宜興紫砂 Yixing Zisha - purple sand teapots of Yixing. This mark is found in teapots made during the Republican Period during the 1920's and into the early years of 1930's before the occupation of Manchuria, which led to political unrest by Japanese invasion which interrupted teapot productions, trade and commerce, and eventually leading to WWII.
