An exceptional French patinated bronze sculpture on verde white veined marble plinth pedestal base. Inscribed on base: Clodion
Dating to the 19th century, after Michel Claude Clodion (France, 1738-1814), one of the most creative and technically gifted French sculptors in the second half of the 18th century. The magnificent work depicting a group of putti and young Bacchus playing with a goat. Clodion fuses the movement and energy of the Baroque 17th century with antique themes in a lighter, more delicate and more subtly sensual style than previously achieved by contemporaries. Fine quality bronze with brown patina.
