This is a vintage Japanese lacquered wooden Incense Case, which was made in 1934
This is made of natural wood coated with lacquer. The inside is covered with gold leaf.
Leaf patterns are painted by the technique of MAKIE. This type of MAKIE is called as "Samurai MAKIE".
On the back side of the lid of the wooden box, it is written that this was made as a commemoration of the
12th anniversary of the death of a person in Showa Era 9 (=1934)
Japanese insence case is called "Kogo". Used to store incense in a tea ceremony
The original wood storage box (kiri bako) is also included.
