This dramatic armchair is a tour-de-force of Meiji-period craftsmanship. Profusely carved in high relief with a twin-dragon motif, it embodies the late 19th-century Western fascination with Eastern aesthetics.
The chair (30 lbs, 29.5" H x 26" W) features cabriole legs with dragon-mask knees and a reticulated apron. The 17" seat is framed by a key-fret border, typical of export-quality furniture of the era. This piece has been professionally maintained, with a recent wax treatment and backrest stabilization.

The backrest has been professionally stabilized and re-secured following an old glue failure. Structurally sound and suitable for occasional use or as a statement piece. Notable wear includes two missing "irises" (pupil inserts) in the horn eyes as shown in photos. Minor age-related surface checks and oxidation to the finish are present, adding to the authentic 120-year-old character. The underside remains in original condition showing authentic tool marks and historic screws. less
