this model likely served as a sales model or was a gift for employees or customers. Such miniature models were used, among other things, by ibm sales representatives to illustrate the setup of this complex computer system with all its components to prospective customers and users. A computer system of that era consisted of various workstations, punched card printers, processor units, etc., which occupied a considerable amount of space. A scale model was therefore a suitable tool for spatial visualization. These models were transported and displayed in acrylic cases. Today, only a few examples can be found in museums, such as the computer history museum (mountain view, ca) or the national museum of american history (washington, d.c.).

the model is in very good condition with signs of use and patina. The matching acrylic box with lid was custom-made. This piece has an attribution mark,
