Model 183 ‘Miami’ Lounge Chair designed by Rudolf Wolf and manufactured by Rohé Noordwolde, The Netherlands 1960. This extremely rare and exquisite lounge chair is one of the most extraordinary designs ever produced by Rohé Noordwolde. The combination of materials and construction makes this chair truly exceptional and a true collector’s item. Very few of these chairs have survived over time, likely due to the fragility of the seating material, making this an incredibly hard-to-find piece. The chair features a striking teak armrest structure with clean architectural lines and a square tubular steel base, which has been carefully refinished in its original soft off-white color. The seating and backrest are made from original off-white plastic straps, which remarkably remain in strong and firm condition. This delicate construction gives the chair a unique lightness and elegance, showcasing the innovative spirit of Dutch postwar furniture design. Rudolf Wolf, known for his refined and functional modernist designs, brought a sense of sophistication to Rohé Noordwolde’s production, often combining natural materials with metal structures in a way that felt both contemporary and timeless. This model stands out even within his oeuvre, balancing the warmth of teak with the industrial precision of steel. It is a museum-worthy collector’s item that embodies the best of Dutch modernist design in the 1960s. Accompanying the chair is a copy of original documentation, including archival photographs from the Rohé archive, further underscoring its rarity and historical significance. This is a unique opportunity to acquire an important piece of Dutch design heritage—an extraordinary chair that captures the inventive and elegant character of Rudolf Wolf’s work at its very best.
