This minimalist Japanese earthenware bowl dates to the Taishō period and aligns beautifully with the mingei tradition—folk craft that celebrates simplicity, functionality, and natural beauty.
Dimensions: height 23 cm, diameter 38 cm.
The silhouette is calm and balanced: a wide, rounded rim, a generous opening, and a softly curved body that catches the light in a subtle way. The glaze has a serene natural tone in cream-beige, with fine speckling and a gentle sheen.
In two small spots the glaze is intentionally “open”: these are stilt marks / kiln marks (firing contact points), created when pieces touched each other or the kiln supports during firing. The effect is subtle and honest, highlighting the handcrafted making process.
A beautiful interior accent on a low table or sideboard, as a planter (with an inner pot), or as an original base for a simple ikebana arrangement. The scale and understated colour give it a strong, calm presence without overpowering the space.
Condition: good, honest vintage condition with age-appropriate wear; light wear, surface marks, and two kiln/stilt marks where the glaze is absent (see photos).
